Electrozombies (Germany) – Review
„I See A Light“: A melancholic ray of light in the darkness
With „I See A Light“, CØLDSTAR once again proves that they masterfully explore the dark corners of dark wave and synth pop. The song begins with a nostalgic-naive melody reminiscent of the early days of „Depeche Mode“. But this lightness is only a harbinger of the deeper, melancholic atmosphere that soon unfolds. The deep, darkly coloured vocals give the track a seriousness that will surely delight fans of „Dunkelsucht“ and „Seelennacht“.
The chorus „I want to feel pleasure and pain“ stays in your head and is predestined for collective sing-along moments at concerts. The emotional intensity of the song reaches its climax in the bridge, where it fades gently, leaving room for a last, powerful chorus. The atmospheric fade-out of the intro perfectly rounds off the piece.
Lyrically, the song captures the inner conflict and longing for authenticity in an overstimulated world. CØLDSTAR manages to convey these themes authentically, both musically and lyrically, without resorting to clichés. „I See A Light“ is a must for anyone who feels at home in the deep, dark aesthetics of the modern gothic scene.
